Privacy policy
The short version: we only use your details to do the job you asked for, and we never claim anything over your music.
Who we are
Shade Studios is a recording and production studio based in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, South Africa. We are the data controller for the information described here. If you have any question about it, email info@shadestudios.co.za.
What we collect
- Contact details — your name, email address and, if you give it, your phone number.
- Project details — what you need done, the audio you send, and anything you write in the notes field.
- Basic website data — aggregated, anonymous usage statistics, so we know which pages are useful.
What we do with it
- To assess your track and send you a quote.
- To do the mixing, mastering, recording or production work you have asked for.
- To send you your finished files and invoice.
- To reply to your messages.
We do not sell your details. We do not add you to a marketing list without asking, and we do not share your music or your contact details with anyone except where it is necessary to deliver your project.
Your music
You keep 100% ownership of your song. We work on it, hand it back, and make no claim to your master, your composition or your publishing. We do not publish your music, use it in our own releases, or provide it to third parties. Project files are returned to you on delivery.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become projects are deleted within twelve months. Project files are held for the duration of the job and for a reasonable archive period afterwards so we can help with revisions or re-deliveries — after which they are permanently deleted. Ask us at any time and we will delete your project files immediately.
Your rights (POPIA)
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) you have the right to ask us what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, and to ask us to delete it. You can withdraw consent for us to contact you at any time. We will never penalise you for exercising these rights.
Cookies
This site uses a small number of cookies and local storage for essential function only — for example remembering that your email draft was prepared. We do not use advertising trackers or sell behavioural data.
Updates
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date. Last updated: 2026.
